About
Silica - silicon dioxide
Silica (SiO2 - Silicon Dioxide) is the name given to a group of minerals composed of silicon and oxygen, the two most abundant elements in the earth's crust. Silica is found commonly in the crystalline state and rarely in an amorphous state. It is composed of one atom of silicon and two atoms of oxygen resulting in the chemical formula SiO2. After air and water, Silica is the most frequently used commodity on our planet.
Silicon Dioxide is silicon oxide with the chemical formula SiO2. It is an essential component of most materials and now plays a key role in our daily lives, as it is used in electronics, pharmacy, construction, metallurgy, glassmaking and many other industries. Over the past 5 years, the demand for and price of silicon has grown at an unexpectedly high rate and continues to do so.
